Descriptive text

Hallo
today I will explain about Descriptive text The meaning of descriptive text is a paragraph that contains a clear and detailed description of an object, place, or event to the reader. So that readers seem to see and feel for themselves what the author describes

Eiffel Tower
The structure was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance to the Exposition Universelle, a World Fair celebrating the centenary of the French Revolution. Eiffel actually planned to build a tower in Barcelona, for the 1888 Universal Exhibition, but the responsible parties at the Barcelona city hall found it strange and expensive, and did not fit the city. After rejecting the Barcelona Plan, Eiffel sent his draft to those responsible for the Universal Exhibition in Paris, where he built the tower a year later, namely 1889. The tower was inaugurated on March 31, 1889, and opened on May 6. Three hundred workers joined together 18,083 parts of embedded iron (a pure form of structural iron), using two and a half million nails, in a structural form by Maurice Koechlin. The risk of accidents is very great, for this unusual modern skyscraper the tower is open with no middle level except for two platforms. However, because Eiffel took precautions, including the use of movable rails, auxiliary rails and screens, only one person died.

Construction of the Eiffel Tower in 1889.
This tower received various criticisms from the public when it was built, calling it a nuisance to the eye. The daily newspapers are filled with critical letters from the art community in Paris. One of them was included in William Watson's US Government Publishing Office publication of the Paris Universal Exposition: Civil Engineering, Public Works and Architecture 1892. "And for twenty years we see, stretching across the city, the geniuses of the centuries still lived. , we see a black shadow-like expanse of black columns built of iron nail plates. ”[10] The signatories to this letter included Messonier, Gounod, Garnier, Gerome, Bougeureau, and Dumas.

The novelist Guy de Maupassant - who hates the tower - eats lunch at the Tower restaurant every day. When asked why, he replied that it was the only place in Paris where we couldn't see the Tower. Today, it is still considered a striking piece of building art.

One cliché of Hollywood films shows a view from a Paris window that always shows a tower. In fact, since Paris' height restriction to 7 stories, only a few tall buildings have a clear view of the tower.

Eiffel had a tower license for 20 years, which meant it had to be demolished in 1909, when ownership was transferred to the City of Paris. The city had planned to tear it down (part of the original contest rules for designing a tower that would be easy to tear down) but after the tower proved to be profitable in terms of communications, it was left standing after the permit expired. The military used it to organize Paris taxis on the front lines during the Battle of the First Marne, and it has become a monument to the victory of that battle.
